Animal Crossing City:About

From Animal Crossing City

Animal Crossing City is a speciality wiki devoted to the Animal Crossing series, known as Animal Forest in Japan. As a wiki, Animal Crossing City relies on the edits of everyday people, just like you, for its content! Anyone can edit the wiki, with or without a Wikia account, by selecting the edit tab at the top of each page. Who knows how your edits will effect other fans and players? Come join the team, and help us build this city up to be the very best source for Animal Crossing information! Not sure where to start? Read on for more information. If you feel ready, register an account and make yourself known. Want to show off your Animal Crossing achievements? Your userspace is a great way to do just that!

Or, if you're more comfortable with other languages aside from English, check out this page to see if your language has an Animal Crossing Wiki yet.

The Wiki was founded in August, 2005 at the request of our first administrator, Aeryka. Since then, we have grown and are looking forward to a bright future. Due to Aeryka's prolonged absences, she promoted Stumpers to be the second administrator. However, they are not the only people who can help you - just ask your questions here and let the entire wiki respond.

[edit] Frequently Asked Questions

[edit] How Do I Edit?

Just like all wikis on Wikia, anyone is free to edit any unprotected page. Wikia does not require people to make an account to edit. To edit, simply click the edit button in the upper right corner of any page and then follow the on-screen instructions. If you can write a letter in Animal Crossing, you can edit! Don't be shy! Be sure to click "Save page" when you finish, and to see how the edit will look before you save, click "Preview." Always remember: the "editors" of this site are people just like you - that means you are an editor! As such, feel free to add any missing appropriate information to an article.

So that we can get to know you and recognize your work, the wiki strongly encourages making an account. Editing without having an account means that your IP address will be stored on our history pages. However, if you get a user account, you automatically have your very own page to edit and tell us about yourself, your Animal Crossing town... whatever you would like! Expand the world's knowledge of Animal Crossing by telling it about your experience. Your "userpage" can be found at User:[your username here]. For example, Aeryka's userspace is found at: http://animalcrossing.wikia.com/User:Aeryka.

[edit] Vandalism

Just like a real city, Animal Crossing City is occasionally vandalized. "Vandalism" refers to any edit made in a deliberate attempt to detract from the Wiki's goals. Don't worry, though: if you're a well meaning person editing in good faith, you by definition cannot be a vandal! If you make a mistake, we'll help you out, not kick you out.

If you see vandalism, help us clean it up. At the top of the vandalized page is a "history" tab. Click it to access the history of the page. Then, locate the edit that was vandalism. Click it and the last non-vandalism edit and click "compare selected versions." An "undo" button will appear. Click it and follow the on-screen instructions to undo the vandalism.

An administrator has extra features at his or her fingertips to help combat vandalism. Also, he or she can punish the vandal by blocking them from editing for the appropriate amount of time.

[edit] Deleting Articles and Images

In the event that an article or image becomes useless (for example, if two articles have been merged into one article or if an image is no longer used), please place {{delete}} at the top of the page. This places the article or image on the administrators' list of pages to delete. One of the administrators should then examine the article and evaluate whether or not it should be deleted. You can help the administrator find what is wrong with the article by putting your reasoning in the template. For example, if an image was no longer used, you could write {{delete|Image is no longer used.}}.

[edit] Creating a New Article

The easiest way to create a new article is to type the title of the article into the submission box on the main page under "helping out" and clicking the "Create new article" button just to the right of the box. Then, write the article and be sure to click "Save page" when you are done!

[edit] Uploading an Image

Images greatly improve the aesthetic quality of the articles. If you have an image that you want to put on an article, you may upload it here. Detailed instructions can be found on that page. However, before uploading an image ask yourself the following:

  1. Is the image already on the Wiki? If so, click on the image to view its page. There, you will find an option to upload a better quality version of the image. If your image is a better quality version, please upload it. Remember to adhere to Wikia's image policies when uploading images!
  2. Do you have a specific use for the image? Only upload an image that you intend to add to a page in the next twenty-four hours. Otherwise, the image will be marked as unused and it may be deleted!
  3. Is this a personal image? A personal image is one that you intend to use on your userpage and not on one of our regular articles. These are fine, as long as you keep them to a minimum. For example, uploading several small images of your character or town is acceptable, but uploading several very large images would not be.

[edit] Becoming an Administrator

From time to time, Animal Crossing City needs a new administrator. When such a time comes, the administrators will look to people just like YOU! However, you must first prove yourself by doing the following:

  1. Making meaningful edits to our main articles.
  2. Have a significant number of edits.
  3. Show maturity and self-control.
  4. Be consistently trustworthy.

If you notice a user who, in your mind, deserves to be an admin, or you would like to be considered, please drop our current administrators a message at this page.
