Article and File Names

Article/page titles or file names must mention or be about the subject they are discussing. File names including excessive numbers and letters in a random fashion will be renamed.

When an official name is not available, perhaps because the page or file name is already taken, one that describes the situation can be used.

File name guidelines

Article Writing
Main article: Animal Crossing Wiki:Neutrality
  • Write in third person.
  • Never use the word "you" when describing actions involving game play. Instead, write "the player".
  • Write a brief definition of the article's subject as the first sentence or paragraph.
  • The first time the article title appears in the text, it must be written in bold.
  • If writing a quote, remember to use quotation marks.
  • Please use US English ("color" instead of "colour") and avoid slang terms unless directly quoting.
  • Linking (e.g. [[Example]]) to other pages is usually limited to the first occurrence within the article (excluding infoboxes and templates).
Capitalization
  • Capitalize at the beginning of a paragraph or sentence.
  • Capitalize headings and titles (including infoboxes and templates).
  • Capitalize any formal nouns, such as names of characters or places.
  • Common nouns in articles should not be capitalized unless it is starting a sentence.
Standard Articles

Villagers

  • An opening paragraph with a description
    • It must contain their name, personality, species and that they are a villager in the Animal Crossing series.
    • What their name and catchphrase may be a reference to (if any)
    • What games they appear in
  • An Appearance section
    • Must include color, referring to eyes, make-up, fur, skin, hands, feet, ears, nose etc.
    • What their initial clothes are - these are the clothes they first wear in the game, before changing them.
    • References to their species, name, personality etc.
  • A Personality section
    • Must contain the opening sentence: ''Below is a brief description of the '''<name of personality>''' personality. For more information, click '''[[<personality page>|here]]'''.''
    • A generic description of what that personality means. All villagers in a certain personality act the same, therefore bias must be added.
  • A House section
    • A gallery section for house pictures (optional)
    • A description of the house as it is when they first move in and have their boxes unpacked, including items of furniture within it, with links to the relevant furniture pages.
    • The K.K. Slider song they have playing on their stereo. Some villagers do not initially have a stereo, but all villagers play one K.K. Song.
  • A Merchandise section (optional)
    • Insert a gallery, with the description for each picture being the type of merchandise

In addition to the above sections, each villager page must have:

Special Characters

  • An opening paragraph describing the character.
    • It must contain their name (in bold) and species.
    • What games they appear in.
    • What services they offer.
  • An Appearance section
    • This is a description of what they look like.
  • Their Role in the game(s)
    • This could be a generalized description of the services they offer, with a link to the event they host or the business they operate.
    • If they appear in more than one game, and have slightly different roles in each, separate their role in the series by adding sub-headings for each game as below:
      • In Animal Crossing
      • In Animal Crossing: Wild World
      • In Animal Crossing: City Folk
      • In Animal Crossing: New Leaf
      • In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
    • Some characters have made appearances in Animal Crossing: The Movie. This section should have the heading:
      • In Animal Crossing: The Movie
  • An Other Appearances section
    • Some special characters have made cameo appearances in other games. This only needs to be a brief description of their appearance and role within the game, not the game itself.
  • An Gallery section (optional)
    • Add a gallery if there are many pictures for the article. Only add relevant, informative pictures.
  • A Merchandise section (optional)
    • Insert a gallery, with the description for each picture being the type of merchandise.

In addition to the above sections, be sure to add the following:

  • A Quote of something they have said from in-game (see Template:Quote)
  • An Infobox (see Template:Infobox Special for use).
  • A Species Box (see Category:Species for the "Template:" pages).
  • Relevant categories
    • Character, Special Character, Gender, Personality, Appearance, Species

Buildings and Locations

Each building or location that is in the game or referred to must have a page.

  • An opening paragraph describing the building/location.
    • It must contain the name (in bold).
    • The special characters that appear in the location or control the building.
    • A basic description of the services it offers.
    • What games it appears in.
    • A brief description of its design and appearance
  • A Role section
    • An in depth description of the services the building or location offers in the game.
      • If it's a retail store, describe each service and the types of items it offers e.g. furniture, designs etc. including the number of each item it offers. Use sub-headings if the section becomes too long.
    • If the building appears in more than one game with differing services in each game, describe it's role under a sub-heading instead, using the headings below:
      • In Animal Crossing
      • In Wild World
      • In City Folk
      • In New Leaf
      • In New Horizons
  • A Gallery (optional)
  • A See also section (optional)
    • This is a section to link to directly related pages e.g. a hair salon will be about hair, so a related page would be hair style ([{Shampoodle]]).

Additionally, the below items need to be added to each page:

Events

Each event that appears in the game requires a page. Be sure to follow the basic style below:

  • An opening paragraph describing the event.
    • It must contain the name (in bold).
    • When the event happens.
    • The special characters that appear for the occasion or host it.
    • A basic description of the goals and special features.
    • What games it appears in.
  • An Events section
    • An in depth description of the event, describing each objective (if any).
    • If the event appears in more than one game with differing objectives, describe it's role under a sub-heading instead, using the headings below:
      • In Animal Crossing
      • In Wild World
      • In City Folk
      • In New Leaf
      • In New Horizons
  • A Unique Items section (optional)
    • Some events may have one off items such as furniture that can be won by completing tasks, or items which can be found around the town on the ground or obtained elsewhere.
  • A Gallery section (optional)
    • This is for images which are used within <gallery></gallery> tags. Each image must be followed by a description of what is happening within it.

Additionally, the below items need to be added to each page:

  • An Infobox (see Template:Infobox Event for use).
  • An {{Events}} template at the bottom of the page.
  • Relevant categories
Page Markers

If you find yourself limited in what you can add to a page or you see a page that does not follow the style guidelines, use a page marker relevant to the problem so that other editors may be able to make sure it meets the standards expected. These templates are:

{{Cleanup}} {{Construction}} {{Delete}} {{Merge}} {{Stub}}

Custom Userpages

This wiki is for official, universally applicable Animal Crossing content. That means that pages dedicated to your village or your character are not allowed. However, such info is permitted under subpages of the user, in the User: namespace. When creating the page, the title format should be User:USERNAME/PAGENAME.
