Bridges are landmarks that cross over the river, connecting the land on both sides.
Animal Crossing[]

In Animal Crossing, Tortimer may one day appear in an acre with a river that is not taken by a bridge or river pool if the player's town has reached a maximum capacity of 15 villagers (player characters not included). If spoken to, he will talk about how the residents have been asking for an additional bridge, and go on to ask the player if the current acre is a good place to build the bridge. If the player says yes, a bridge will appear the next day over a random part of that acre's river. If the player says that he/she will think about it, Tortimer will say that he'll look at some other place to build a bridge, and appear in a different acre the next day, to which he will ask the same question.
City Folk and New Leaf[]
Most towns have two bridges to start with, but if the town has an island, another bridge will appear.
In City Folk[]
In City Folk, another bridge will be built after donating 200,000 Bells to the Town Fund and will take a week to build. The player has to go to the civil center in the town hall and choose Town Fund and Pelly will ask them to vote. In New Leaf, only one bridge is available at the start of the game, but more are available as Public Works Projects, with up to three bridges permitted at once. In New Horizons, the Deserted Island initially has no bridges, but one can later be crafted at no cost and more can be funded and constructed after Resident Services is upgraded to a building.
In New Leaf[]
In all games up until New Leaf there were two types of bridges, Cobblestone and Suspension. In New Leaf, there are four new types of bridges as well as the two original styles for a total of six different bridge styles.
New Leaf bridges[]
In New Leaf, bridges can be constructed through Public Works Projects. The town can hold a maximum of three bridges. Demolishing the original bridge from the town in order to build a new one counts against the player's 30 Public Works Projects.

New Horizons[]
In New Horizons, there are eight bridge styles. All styles are unlocked once Resident Services is upgraded from a tent to a building. To create a bridge, the player must speak to Tom Nook about infrastructure, then select "Bridges". The player can then choose the style of bridge they want, and place the construction plot anywhere on their island where there is an even stretch of river. Lloid will appear with the plot and accept donations for the bridge's construction, and when the required funding has been donated in full, the bridge will be completed the next day.
Bridges can be canceled during the funding period by speaking to Lloid and paying 10,000 Bells, or demolished after construction by speaking to Tom Nook and paying 10,000 Bells. A maximum of 8 bridges can be placed on the island at once. As of the final update, you will be able to build a maximum of 10 bridges.

Trivia[]
- If the player demolishes a bridge in New Leaf that is next to a villager who has moved in, Isabelle will not allow the bridge placement because she now considers it too close to the house and 'might cause problems'.
