Butch (ジョン,Jon?, John) is a crankydogvillager in the Animal Crossing series. His name reflects on the cartoon name given to dogs, usually meaning muscular in appearance. Butch's rottweiler appearance may also relate to his name as they too appear masculine and muscular. His initial phrase, "ROOOOOWF", is a slight adjustment on the spelling of the common onomatopoeic words "woof" and "ruff". He is the first dog with a cranky personality. His Wild World picture quote is also exactly the same as Curt's picture quote. He has appeared in every game so far, including Pocket Camp.
Butch is an orange and brown dog with white and dark brown tipped paws. He has a dark brown nose with a corkscrew smile and stern-looking eyes with eyebrows the same color as his muzzle. He has dark brown, floppy ears that fade into a caramel color at the tip. His tail is also dark brown and his arms and legs are the same color as his head. He initially wears the Arctic Camo shirt. In Animal Crossing, he initially wears the Houndstooth Knit shirt. His appearance may possibly be inspired by a Rottweiler, Dachshund or Doberman, which all have similar colors.
Personality
Below is a brief description of the cranky personality. For more information, click here.
Cranky villagers will usually appear in a grouchy or agitated mood. When talking to the player, cranky villagers tend to become angry if the player disagrees with them or refuses to do a favor. Like all cranky villagers, Butch will be invested in his hobby and will often challenge the player to various competitions. He will easily get along with jock, snooty, and other cranky villagers, and occasionally lazy and normal villagers as well. However, he will find it hard to socialize with peppy villagers, as they will seem overstimulated or immature.
Butch has plenty of energy, but for all of his bluster, he's not such a scary guy once you get to know him. Like many dogs of the world, his bark is about a hundred times worse than his bite.
Butch is the only cranky dog in the non-Japanese games so far; the only other two (Champagne and Masa) were only seen in the Japanese exclusive, Animal Forest e+.
