“Man, if you're heading out at this time of night, you must of overslept something fierce, ohmmm”
— Dobie, Animal Forest e+
Dobie (けん,,Ken?) is a cranky (formerly lazy) wolfislander from the Animal Crossing series. He only appears in the earlier games in the series and is the only lazy wolf in the Animal Crossing series. His catchphrase comes from the sound made while meditating, "ohmmm". This refers to his personality. His name may be a reference to the classic R&B musician Dobie Gray, famous for the song "Drift Away".
Dobie returned to the series in New Leaf, as part of the Welcome Amiibo update. By scanning amiibo cards this villager can be met via the campground and invited to the town.
Dobie is a murky-colored green-gray wolf who appears only on the island. His muzzle is a little lighter than his fur. He has a round, black nose, and thick eyebrows. Dobie's eyes are rarely shown open. The insides of his pointy ears are pink. The shirt he wears is the Blue Aloha shirt like all male islanders. He may be mistaken for a cranky villager (which he is in later games), which often look grumpy. He appears to be elderly due to his wrinkles.
Below is a brief description of the lazy personality. For more information, click here.
As a lazy villager, Dobie will be friendly and easy to get along with due to his laid back lifestyle. Like all lazy villagers, he has a love of food and relaxing. He will enjoy partaking in the usual hobbies, usually for relaxing reasons or for food, like when fishing. Dobie will get along well with other villagers, but may offend or confuse jock villagers, who have a conflicting lifestyle of exercise and fitness, compared to the lazy lifestyle of relaxing and food. He will get along with other lazy villagers with whom he will talk about food, comics, or superheroes. He will also get along well with normal, peppy, smug, uchi and other lazy villagers, and occasionally cranky villagers, but may from time to time annoy snooty villagers, who disagree with the lazy lifestyle.

Cranky villagers will usually appear in a grouchy or agitated mood and are more difficult to befriend than other villager types. When talking to the player, cranky villagers tend to become angry if the player disagrees with them or refuses to do a favor. Like all cranky villagers, Dobie will be invested in his hobby and will often challenge the player to various competitions. He will easily get along with jock, snooty and other cranky villagers, and occasionally lazy and normal villagers as well. However, he will find it hard to socialize with peppy villagers, as they will seem overstimulated or immature. Dobie will also enjoy spreading rumors of other villagers.
As an islander, he has a favorite fruit and a fruit that he is allergic to. Feeding him the allergy fruit will reduce the likelihood of his dropping money bags. Dobie is allergic to Cherries and loves Peaches.
Dobie's default interior consists of nothing but a tea vase. He has the bamboo flooring and the imperial wall. In earlier versions of the game, if given a stereo, he plays Comrade K.K.
In New Leaf, Dobie's house has a home office theme, with items consisting of the Editor Desk, Editor's Chair, and Large Bookshelf. There are also various office (Document Stack, Scattered Papers) and book (Stack of Books [x2], Book Stands, Strapped Books) themed items scattered among the floor and upon a Console Table. Dobie also has a Modern Bed and a Phonograph, the latter of which plays K.K. Lament.
