Reason: Happy Home Paradise features and exteriors options

Happy Home Designer[]

In Happy Home Designer, the player can choose to build different buildings which can then be designed and decorated. These facilities are unlocked throughout the course of the game. It is to be noted that the time doesn't pass in real time, unlike in previous games of the series. To construct a facility, the player must speak to Isabelle at Nook's Homes.

After completing the School expansion, the player is able to edit any previously constructed facility by talking to Digby in Nook's Homes.

Themes and layouts[]

School[]

The first facility the player will unlock. Initially, it contains only one classroom of a 12x8 size, and has 3 different color variations for the exterior. Completion requires a teacher's desk, and at least 4 tables and chairs. The school unlocks a variety of different desks and chairs, as well as school-themed items, such as the blackboard and anatomical models.

After completing the school, hospital and first shop, the school can be expanded. The expansion adds an additional exterior style in three different colors, as well as a second classroom and hallway.

If the player visits the school in their free time, they can find villagers in the hallway sprinting or walking. Villagers in the classroom can be assigned the role of a student or teacher. The students are often found sitting at their desks or running in the classroom as they ignore the teacher. The teacher can be seen reading lessons off a sheet of paper.

The player will sometimes find Tom Nook in the hallway, where he will recall an incident involving a paper bag from when he was at school.

This facility returns in the New Horizons DLC add-on, Happy Home Paradise.

Hospital[]

The hospital comes with three exterior color variations to choose from. It contains three separate rooms: reception, the patient ward and a doctor's office.

Visiting the hospital before or after work allows the player to find sick villagers awaiting treatment in the waiting room as well as a receptionist. The doctor's office features one sick villager, who has unique dialogue for laying sickly in a bed, on an operating table or on a chair, a doctor, who can hold a document about the patient or, if said patient is on an operating table, prepare to start a procedure, and a nurse. The patient ward has three villagers, who will speak differently depending if they are wandering the room or laying either peacefully or sickly in bed.

This facility returns in the New Horizons DLC add-on, Happy Home Paradise.

Cafe[]

The cafe has three different exterior styles, each with two color variations. It unlocks a variety of different food items.

Villagers can be found eating at desks, and will have unique dialogue if they have a food item on the table in front of them. It also has two waiters, who can either wonder the room with dishes or stand behind a cash register. On rare occasions, Tom Nook can be seen there, saying that food is necessary for an office's productivity.

This facility returns in the New Horizons DLC add-on, Happy Home Paradise.

Stores[]

The store comes with three different exterior styles, each with three different color variations. It unlocks a variety of different display stands and product shelves. A total of two stores can be built.

Villagers can be seen gazing in wonder at products for sale, and two villagers act as employees. One mans the cash register and the other welcomes customers into the shop.

This facility returns in the New Horizons DLC add-on, Happy Home Paradise, though it is an Apparel shop rather than a general store.

Office Building[]

The Office comes with three different exterior styles, and unlocks a variety of office equipment and different desks. It requires the player to decorate the office itself and the meeting room.

Employee villagers here will work, either on a clipboard or at a computer. The boss can also work at a computer (though they won't perform the employee's typing animation) or regard a document (which, if a Smug villager is boss, will turn out to be his grocery shopping list). In the meeting room, should there be a whiteboard present, a worker can give a presentation to their co-workers and boss, who will listen and nod. The meeting held is about how to hold a productive meeting, which is ironically implied to last an excruciatingly long amount of time.

Restaurant[]

The Restaurant comes with three different exterior styles, each with two different color variations to choose from. It requires the player to decorate the dining area and the kitchen. The restaurant unlocks a variety of kitchen appliances.

The villagers here have the same dialogue as in a cafe. However, if there is no food in front of them, they may read a book, which comes with different dialogue compared to if they are placed in front of a magazine rack. Villagers in the kitchen will either wash dishes, think hard on their work or use a frying pan at a cooking appliance.

On rare occasions, Tom Nook can be found here, saying that he was meeting with a client, but they "forgot".

This facility returns in the New Horizons DLC add-on, Happy Home Paradise.

Concert Hall[]

The Concert hall comes with two different exterior styles, one looking more operatic and formal and the other looking like a night club. It unlocks a variety of different instruments, as well as audio equipment such as speakers and amps.

By placing these instruments, bands consisting of six villagers will appear on stage and perform covers of K.K. Slider songs, though the notes played on the instruments are still randomised. If there is a microphone present onstage, one of the performers will sing instead of play an instrument, having unique dialogue about singing. On rare occasions, K.K. Slider himself can be found watching performances as a special character, though he cannot play on stage and is limited to two costumes.

Hotel[]

The Hotel is the very last public facility the player will work on. It comes with two different exterior styles, one being western and the other being Asian-inspired, each with two different color variations. To complete the hotel, the player must decorate two hotel rooms, a lobby and a banquet hall.

Villagers in the lobby will queue for a room or sit on benches, and the receptionist will stand behind the hotel's desk, booking villagers into their rooms. Interestingly, despite the hotel only ostensibly having two rooms, each of which being occupied, there are three more villagers waiting for a room in the lobby. This could imply that there are more rooms within the hotel, and the player is only tasked with decorating two of them.

One villager will lodge in each room, and will have unique dialogue should they sit on their bed, lay down on it or simply be left to wander the room.

The banquet hall features a lot more customers than the cafe or restaurant, and each villager will have separate dialogue from these two establishments that show the banquet hall as much more upper-class and expensive than the other eateries.
