― Picture quote, Wild World

My head is still leaking, but that medicine will make me feel better soon.
― Elmer, sick in City Folk

Elmer (サブレ, Sabure?, Sablé) is a lazy horse villager. He appears in all games from the Animal Crossing series. His name could be a reference to either the Elmer Horse Collection, a company which makes horse figurines, or Elmer's Glue, which was once made from horses. His Japanese name can come from sablé, a french shortbread biscuit. His initial phrase, "tenderfoot," may relate to the cowboy ranch rank, where a tenderfoot is an inexperienced ranch man, or "cowboy." This may also be related to one of the Boy Scout ranks in American Scouts. His picture quote is referring to his lazy personality, because lazy villagers enjoy the consumption of food. He shares his Wild World picture quote with Drake, another villager in the series. He has the play hobby.

Elmer in Animal Crossing

Elmer is a bay brown horse with a darker brown mane. He has a white stripe down his forehead that reaches his gray muzzle. Elmer has partially closed, lazy looking eyes with blue eyelids. His initial clothing is the gaudy sweater. His overall appearance suits his personality. In New Horizons, his initial clothing is a white boa fleece.

Personality

Below is a brief description of the lazy personality. For more information, click here.

As a lazy villager, Elmer will be friendly and easy to get along with due to his laid back lifestyle. Like all lazy villagers, he has a love of food and relaxing. He will enjoy partaking in the usual hobbies, usually for relaxing reasons or for food, like when fishing. Elmer will get along well with other villagers, but may offend or confuse jock villagers, who have a lifestyle of exercise and fitness, which conflicts with the lazy lifestyle of relaxing and food. He will get along with other lazy villagers with whom he will talk about food, comics, or superheroes. He will also get along well with normal, peppy, smug, and sisterly villagers, and occasionally cranky villagers, but may from time to time annoy snooty villagers, who disagree with the lazy lifestyle.

House[]

Elmer's house has an old-fashioned theme to it. It has two ranch couches and a ranch coffee table, a classic clock, a regal dresser, wardrobe and lamp, a haz-mat barrel and a phonograph that will play K.K. Waltz.
