The player wearing a rental wet suit in New Leaf

The wet suit (マリンスーツ Marin Sūtsu?, Marine Suit) is clothing (and technically also a tool) added in New Leaf that allows the player to swim and dive underwater to find sea creatures such as seaweed and octopuses. There are 9 possible wet suit colors. The wet suit returns in New Horizons with the 1.3.0 Summer Update (Wave 1).

In New Leaf[]

The wet suit can be bought from Tortimer Island for 40 medals. There is a 25% chance that the wet suit will be available on any given day. If the wet suit is not for sale, Lloid will always offer one for rental on Tortimer Island. Certain wet suits are rare (orange and pink), while others are only found on Club Tortimer (blue, red, striped, and white), which the player can join for 50 medals.

To dive into the water, the player must press the A button when facing the ocean on the island or in town. Note that a fishing rod will override the wet suit if one is currently equipped, and the player will attempt to fish rather than dive. Any other tools will be put away prior to jumping in the water. While in town, the player can jump off of Kapp'n's dock or parts of the cliff where water is below.

The player is unable to change clothes while wearing a wet suit, and Mabel will comment on this if they attempt to try on clothes in the store while wearing a wet suit.

In New Horizons[]

NH-Dresses-Horizontal-striped wet suit (black)

In New Horizons, there are three wet suit designs: the Nook Inc. wet suit that can be purchased from the Nook Stop for 800 Nook Miles, the Horizontal-Stripe wet suit that can be purchased from Nook's Cranny for 3,000 Bells, and the Leaf-Pattern wet suit that can be ordered from the Nook Shopping app for 3,000 Bells. The Horizontal-Stripe wet suit and Leaf-Pattern wet suit have four color variations each. The Nook Inc. wet suit has no variations.

Similarly to New Leaf, the wet suit is a regarded as a tool and, unlike most tools in New Horizons, has unlimited uses. Wet suits are purchased outright instead of rented. If a player is holding a tool, such as a slingshot or fishing rod, and attempts to dive, the tool being held will override the wet suit and be used instead; in order to dive, the player must put away the tool they are holding.

The player cannot change clothes or use the Able Sisters changing room while wearing a wet suit, as the wet suit goes over the player's clothes rather than replacing them. The wet suit also cannot be registered in the Tool Ring or a Wand, and must be manually equipped and removed. If the player is not wearing any clothing under their wet suit, they can equip a wand outfit over it, however, diving will not be possible until the wand outfit is unequipped.

The player can still dive while in Island Designer mode, so long as they are wearing a wet suit. The Island Designer app will not shut down while the player is in the water, however, the player will not be able to landscape until they are back on land.

Trivia[]

  • If the player spends enough time diving in the suit, they will shiver as if cold upon exiting the water. The window to activate this effect is significantly shortened in the winter months.
  • Animal villagers do not acknowledge the player is wearing a wet suit, despite talking about the item; instead, they will comment on the clothing the player is wearing underneath the suit. This trait carried over to New Horizons.
  • If the player presses A to dive while they aren't near the water, they will start the dive, but stop and make a wide-eyed expression.
  • Purchasing a wet suit is required to unlock Gullivarrr in New Horizons.
