In Animal Crossing, it was available at Tom Nook's, but in other games it could only be bought from Crazy Redd's. The Worthy Painting exists in the real world as Liberty Leading the People, and was painted by Eugène Delacroix. This painting has a woman holding the French flag representing Liberty, giving the people guidance during the French Revolution of 1830. It was painted in 1830 and is on display in the Louvre.

Liberty Leading the People, in French, La Liberté guidant le peuple, is a painting by Eugène Delacroix commemorating the July Revolution of 1830, which toppled Charles X of France. A woman personifying Liberty leads the people forward over the bodies of the fallen, holding the flag of the French Revolution – the tricolor flag which is still France's flag today – in one hand and brandishing a bayoneted musket with the other. The figure of Liberty is also viewed as a symbol of France and the French Republic known as Marianne.

This painting was well known for its usage in Coldplay's Viva la Vida album art.

Donation to the museum[]

After donating it to the museum, a museum label will give a description of the painting. In New Horizons, the museum label reads:

Liberty Leading the People
Eugène Delacroix, 1830
Oil on canvas

Painted by leading 19th century Romantic artist Delacroix in the same year as a French revolution. The woman in the center is often mistaken for Joan of Arc, but she is actually the fictional "Marianne."

  • Note: Prior to New Leaf, paintings did not have visual differences between forged and genuine versions. Therefore, paintings given to Blathers were fake or authentic at random.
