The flowery painting (たぐいまれなるめいが, taguimarenarumeiga?, rare masterpiece) is one of the pieces of artwork available in all Animal Crossing series games until New Leaf and can be collected by Happy Home Handbook in Happy Home Designer. In New Horizons, the painting can be donated to the museum and be added to the art gallery. As this painting can be bought from Jolly Redd's Treasure Trawler. It has no forgery and is always genuine in New Leaf and New Horizons. This piece is based on the 1888-1889 work Sunflowers by Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, and is one of the most iconic paintings in the world.

Considered one of Vincent Van Gogh's most well known still life paintings, Sunflowers is generally considered the default name of this specific Arles Sunflower painting.

Although previous works regarding flowers had been created by Van Gogh in the past, the artist drew inspiration for a set of sunflowers while he was in Arles, France, which have since gained popularity due to its charming, yet simplistic appearances. Despite its quaint image, the Sunflowers first demonstrated Van Gogh's usage of pigments which were introduced around the 19th century, which were used to bring out vibrancy similar to that of actual sunflowers.

After donating it to the museum, a museum label will give a description of the painting. In New Horizons, the museum label reads:

Sunflowers
Vincent van Gogh, circa 1888
Oil on canvas

Van Gogh painted this piece when he moved to the south of France in search of more vibrant colors. Yellow was Van Gogh's favorite color, and he made seven paintings that featured sunflowers during this time.

  • Note: Prior to New Leaf, paintings did not have visual differences between forged and genuine versions. Therefore, paintings given to Blathers were fake or authentic at random.
