In Wild World and City Folk, the player can record their list of friends using their Friend Roster. The friend roster holds information such as the player's friends' name, town and friend code. In City Folk the player can also add comments and change Wii Speak settings with the roster. The friend roster also lets the player keep track of who is currently visiting their town and register new friends. There is also an option to delete friends. In Wild World, it is not required to have a friend in the player's roster in order to visit their town, since it is possible to connect using DS-to-DS connection if they are close by. However, a friend code is needed to visit from a far distance.
