Smiles are free, you know.
― Picture quote, Wild World

I wanted to ask about the outfit I'm wearing. Does it look good on me?
― Gladys, Wild World

Gladys (ちとせ, Chitose) is a normal ostrich villager in the Animal Crossing series. Her name is based around her personality; a neutral name that is unlike the other personality type villagers, which all have names relating to their species and character. Her initial phrase, "stretch," is a play on her species, which are known to have long necks. Her picture quote sometimes makes players mistake her to have a snooty personality. She first appeared as a new character in Animal Forest e+, a Japan only game and was brought back to Wild World, City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Gladys is a female ostrich with large black eyes. The upper part of her face, her wings, her abdomen, and the upper part of her legs are white, while the lower part of her face and legs are gray. Her initial shirt is the misty shirt. Her appearance seems to be based on the Red-crowned Crane. In Animal Forest e+, her eyelashes are slightly shorter than in the later games.

Personality

Below is a brief description of the normal personality. For more information, click here.

As a normal villager, Gladys will appear friendly and hospitable towards the player and other villagers. Like other normal villagers, she will have an unseen obsession with hygiene and cleanliness, which she mentions when the player visits her in her home. Other than her hygiene interests, she will appear neutral and open-minded when discussing hobbies, such as gardening, bug catching, fishing, and so on. Like other villagers, she will from time to time ask the player for favors, feeling sorry for having to ask for help, but appearing very gracious once the task has been complete. She will get along easily with other villagers, but may conflict with snooty villagers when they talk about her appearance as well as gossiping about her, and when talking to cranky villagers who have an interest in planting false information and gossiping about other villagers, which conflicts with the kind nature of the normal personality type.

House

In Animal Forest e+, Gladys has the same house as Pinky, with only the carpet being the 18 Mat Tatami and the wallpaper being the Modern Screen. In Wild World and City Folk she still has many items from the exotic collection in her house and has K.K. Folk playing on a phonograph.
