[edit] History

Tools first appear in the Gamecube version of Animal Crossing when the player is asked to deliver an axe to a villager while working part-time. Following the end of the part-time tutorial, the player is able to purchase tools from Tom Nook.

Silver Tools were introduced in Animal Crossing: City Folk. Silver tools are better than the regular tools, but aren't as great as gold tools. Normally, if a silver tool has a completely different function of a Golden Tool, it is still a silver tool because it gives the player more money. For example, even though the silver shovel and golden shovel have different properties, you still get more money from money trees, than you do from money rocks.

This is what all tools do. In some games, they do different things but they have the same basic gameplay.

The reason why they catch better is the simple fact that the better they are, the wider the radius for the hole on the net. Also you can hit other villagers with it.
