Leap Day is an event that occurs in City Folk and New Leaf. It is celebrated on February 29th of every four years.

In City Folk, a notice will also be left on the Bulletin Board.

In New Leaf, the player is presented with Isabelle upon loading the game. She will remember that it is Leap Day and wonders if any celebrations are planned. Since there are none, she will shout "HAPPY LEAP DAY!" to the player. Isabelle will conclude her speech by wishing the player back in four years. Throughout the day, villagers may bring up leap day during a conversation.

Trivia[]

  • In City Folk, most players would be able to reach their first natural Leap Day in 2012, if playing in real-time (and therefore without time traveling backwards). This is because the American release of City Folk was released in late-2008.
  • In New Leaf, players would be able to reach their first natural Leap Day in 2016, if playing in real-time (and therefore without time traveling backwards). This is because all original releases of New Leaf were released on the year 2013.
  • In New Horizons, players would be able to reach their first natural Leap Day in 2024, if playing in real-time (and therefore without time traveling backwards). This is because the worldwide release of New Horizons was on March 20, 2020.
  • In New Horizons, if the player's birthday is on Leap Day, and it is not a leap year, the villagers throwing the party will have unique dialogue saying that since there is no Leap Day, they are "doing things a little earlier this year".
  • Outside of special dialogue for players whose birthday it is, there is no special acknowledgement of Leap Day in New Horizons.
  • Luna's birthday is on Leap Day.
