Mathilda (アザラク, Azaraku?) is a snooty kangaroo villager in the Animal Crossing series who has made an appearance in every game. Her name relates to "Waltzing Matilda," a popular song in Australia, where kangaroos come from. Her initial catchphrase, "wee baby," refers to a joey, which is a reference to her joey, which she carries with her. Her Japanese name, Azaraku, is a combination of bruise (referring to the purple circles on her body) and raku, although is white, her fur color is the opposite of the color of raku.

Mathilda is a dark gray kangaroo, with a joey in her pouch that mimics her emotions and appearance (like the other kangaroos). She has a charcoal gray body and the inside of her ears are purple. She has purple paws, white feet, a purple mouth, a gray ringed with white tail, and big yellow eyes with red pupils. She looks angry most of the time, same with her joey. Mathilda initially wears the U R Here shirt. She has a similar look to Grizzly, Hopper and Roscoe, due to her eyes and fur.

Below is a brief description of the snooty personality. For more information, click here.
Mathilda has a snooty personality, which means she loves make-up and gossiping. As a snooty villager, Mathilda will first appear rude and arrogant towards the player, often talking about herself and her own experiences. She also speaks about the style and appearance of other villagers, usually other female villagers such as normal, peppy, and other snooty villagers. She will soon warm up to the player, confining in them about their own feelings but still keeping subtly rude. Mathilda will not get along with lazy villagers due to them not caring about their appearance or the lazy villagers hating what she eats, and she won't get along with jock villagers because they will question her on her physical appearance and they won't worry about fashion. However, she will get along with cranky villagers due to their similar rude personalities, and usually normal villagers as well.

Mathilda's house in Animal Crossing has furniture includes Slot machines, the tartan rug, and more. Her house has many slot machines and she has one pool table. She has not changed her house style in most of the Animal Crossing series games. Mathilda usually likes new furniture in her house. If she gains a stereo it will play K.K. Ragtime. She has the red tile floor and two shirts. They are the red check shirt and the check shirt, she also has a dart board.

In New Leaf, her house is completely different. It no longer has the slot machines and her house now has a more contemporary look. She owns a TV, a Plant, two shirts. Mathilda's house now has the Concrete Wall, while keeping the Red Tile Floor from previous games. She also owns a Stereo which continues to play K.K. Ragtime.
