Merengue (パティ,Pati?) is a normalrhinovillager who first appeared in New Leaf. Her name is Spanish for meringue, a type of dessert made with egg whites and sugar. Her phrase references what she looks like, a strawberry shortcake.
Merengue's body is light pink with a white layer that covers the top of her head and smaller horn that looks like whipped cream. She has rosy cheeks and small pink ears and has black eyes with a triangle shape on the side of both eyes, and she has two eyelashes stemming from each eye. Merengue has white hooves and a tail with a peach colored puff at the end which looks like a strawberry. Her horn protrudes from the top of her snout and resembles a strawberry. Overall, she looks similar to strawberry shortcake. She initially wears a Chef's Shirt, suiting her food-like appearance.

Merengue has a normal personality, and frequently acts kind towards the player. Normal villagers generally get along well with lazy, peppy, smug, snooty, and other normal villagers. Merengue may conflict with cranky and sisterly villagers. As a normal villager, Merengue will usually wake up at 6:00 am and is easier to befriend than most. Both normal and peppy villagers reference an unseen friend known as Moppina.
House
Merengue has a café themed home, with a few items from the sweets series and a chocolate fountain. There is a minimalist minitable with red tulips on top. Next to the table is a soft-serve lamp. There is a dessert case in front of the minimalist table. Merengue owns a refrigerator with a kitchen island nearby. She has a phonograph that plays K.K. Stroll.
