Nintendo Co., Ltd(任天堂株式会社 Nintendō Kabushiki gaisha?) is a Japanese software publisher, video game and hardware manufacturer. They are the largest video game making company, followed by Sony. They have countless series, such as the Mario, Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Kirby, and Metroid series. They previously made hanafuda cards before they came into the video game industry in the late 70's. Since they're the developers of the Animal Crossing series, some of their products, like the NES have made it into Animal Crossing gameplay.

HAL Laboratory, Inc. (株式会社ハル研究所 Kabushikigaisha Haru Kenkyūjo) is another Japanese video game developer, a subsidiary of Nintendo. It is known for developing the Animal Crossing series, as well as Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Its most famous character is Kirby.

Satoru Iwata, the former president of Nintendo, was the president of HAL in 1992 until he joined Nintendo in 2000 then later he became the president of Nintendo on May 31, 2002, succeeding Hiroshi Yamauchi.

The logo and the company are not mentioned on the game boxes, which only mention Nintendo with the Nintendo logo and its official seal.
