"I got an oyster! It's a little shellfish." —New Horizons

The oyster is a benthic creature found at the bottom of the sea in New Leaf and New Horizons. Diving is the only way of capturing it.

In New Leaf[]

In New Leaf, an information board in the aquarium will list information about this creature.

"Oysters are sometimes referred to as "the milk of the sea" because of their high nutritional value. Young oysters come from eggs, attach themselves to hard places in the ocean, and then grow. They can change gender, allowing them to reproduce regardless of their neighbors' genders."

In New Horizons[]

Upon donation or selecting "Tell me more about this!", Blathers the curator will say:

"Oysters are marvelous mollusks and, in many ways, the social butterflies of the seas. That is, these bivalves tend to live attached to rocks in large groups known as oyster beds. These reef-like structures provide home and habitat for a delightful variety of creatures. Mussels, barnacles, and sea anemones have all been known to set up house. Meanwhile, small fish and crabs hide from predators and even raise their young among the snuggling oysters. With all the hubbub, an oyster bed sounds like the last place one would get some sleep!"

Main article: Oyster on Wikipedia

The word oyster is used as a common name for a number of different families of saltwater clams, bivalve mollusks that live in marine or brackish habitats. In some species the valves are highly calcified, and many are somewhat irregular in shape. Some kinds of oysters are commonly consumed, cooked or raw, by humans as a delicacy. Some kinds of pearl oysters are harvested for the pearl produced within the mantle.
