|Real name||Townley Discobolus|
|Artist||Myron of Eleutherae|
|Regional names|| Statue athlétique |
Though the original statue was made out of bronze and was lost, there have been many copies made by the Romans. These copies are made of bronze, as well as marble. It was finished between 460-450 BCE in Greece and there is great symmetry throughout the body as well as a lack of emotion in the man's face. A common theory is that Myron's desire for perfection had made him suppress too rigorously the sense of strain in the individual muscles.
