as per in-game encylopaedia: size - 105mm. season - Spring. time - Midday. Their wings resemble peacock feathers. -Fleurione 23:03, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

'Encyclopaedia' is an accepted varient of 'Encyclopedia'- shall I change it back? And also, we hadn't agreed on whether to call it 'upon donation' or 'donating'- 'donating' makes it sound as though you were in the procress of doing so. It just doesn't sound right to me. Dab 13:28, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

"Upon Donating..." is called gross grammar when used in a heading. A heading is a sum up of what's involved in an article and shouldn't include a a beginning to the article which "Upon donating" does. "Donating in..." however is proper grammar, because from that you know that the article is going to be about "Donating" and is a one-sentence summary of what is to be included in the article. Also, using "Donating sounds like you're in the process of doing so" - the article underneath is about the process of donating, what is said in the process and where the insect is placed. Also, encyclopaedia maybe an alternative spelling, but encylopedia is the primary spelling for it, as you can see by doing Google searchs and on Wikipedia (where it's called encyclopedia, and encyclopaedia follows in a bracket) MerrytonRyan 13:45, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

But I didn't say 'upon donating', I said 'upon donation'. Dab 13:56, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Also, wikipedia is a chiefly American site that prioritises American-English spellings. The majority of people here are British. Dab 13:58, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
That's gross grammar too, it's attempting to use the heading as a sentence when it's meant to be a brief description of what is inside the article (like headings should do). "Donating in City Folk" tells the viewer the article is about "Donating in City Folk". "Upon Donation in City Folk" are usually the first words of an article, not a heading. It's like saying "Upon typing on a keyboard" when a heading is a brief description, so "Typing on a Keyboard" would be correct. It follows the principal that too many "add" words are incorrect grammar, like "Mrs. Bloggs has a very tiny cat" when it should be "Mrs. Bloggs has a tiny cat" because "very" has no relevance, tiny means tiny, what does very tiny mean? MerrytonRyan 14:15, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

All my encyclopedias spell it encyclopedia, and my university spell it that way too... Infact, the use of ae in words is becoming obsolete anyway, modern day spellings of paedophile for example, now spell it pedophile, and that's on UK television news! MerrytonRyan 14:15, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

EDIT: Also, we seem to have to type "colour" as "color" and "rumour" as "rumor", so surely encyclopedia is the correct usage? Stumpers or the creator of this Wiki needs to be asked about this, although I feel sorry for everyone if color has to be changed -.- MerrytonRyan 14:19, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Fine, I'll change the 'encyclopedia' bit. We never had to type words like this- if you see the main talk page's second archive, you'll find that discussion on the matter (which I proposed) was never concluded. I give up arguing about this 'donating/donation' thing- it's a petty thing to be arguing about. All insect pages will now read 'Donating to the museum in (game)'. I'm happy with that- it's much clearer. Dab 15:32, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
I think we should use the American spelings because Wikia is american. The previous unsigned comment was added by Dragonfree97 16:51, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Wild World Quote[]

Just checking to see if it's real or not:

I caught a peacock butterfly! Thse colors! Beautiful!- Animal Crossing: Wild World

Dab just made an edit and I can't tell if it's a proper spelling mistake on ACs behalf or if Dab mis-spelt (even though it was correct the first time and was the only edited word). Just checking :) MerrytonRyan 21:43, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Oops! I was meant to change it from 'those' to 'these' but forgot to put in the new word! I'm change that now. BadMeep 08:20, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Ahh right. I thought you may have picked out a spelling mistake in the game :P It was only a small error, so no worries :) MerrytonRyan 11:59, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Rarity[]

I don't think the peacock butterfly should be called uncommon - its rarity depends on the number of black/purple/blue flowers the player have(this also counts to Tiger Butterfly and the Orchid Mantis). Tomasto1 (Message for me?) 19:34, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

Okay. How rare for 100 flowers, then we create a ratio, classify each range of rarity. What colour is the Orchid Mantis? White, right? Super duh... AlpacaDoggie Mask 20:14, April 26, 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps designate rarity on how much it is seen when the criteria is there? A Peacock Butterfly is relatively uncommon when you have dark flowers, the orchid mantis is uncommon when you have white flowers and so is the tiger butterfly. Go by post-criteria, rather than rely on the situation in general :) - MerrytonRyan 23:28, April 26, 2010 (UTC)
