The player can use the Train Station as a means of transportation between other towns. It is absent in Wild World and City Folk, although the bus in City Folk performs a similar function. In New Leaf, the train station returns.

Role

In Animal Crossing

TrainStation

The Train Station as it appears in Animal Crossing.

The Train Station is a building in Animal Forest and Animal Crossing, which is run by Porter the monkey. As its name implies, the building is a station for Trains. If the Player goes to the Train Station and puts another Memory Card with Animal Crossing data on it into the GameCube, they will be able to travel to the Town in the other Memory Card on the Train. The Train is also used at the very beginning of the game, where the Player arrived at their town by coming on the Train, however the Town where the Player used to live is never seen. The Train Station is always at the very north most area of the Town, and the northern wall of the Town will always have train tracks running all the way along it for the Train to run on.

In Animal Crossing: Wild World and City Folk

The Train Station does not appear in Wild World. It is replaced by the taxi which brings the player to the town in the beginning of the game, and the Town Gate which allows the players to visit other people's towns. In City Folk it is replaced by a bus, which both takes the player to their town, but also transports the player to the City; the Town Gate still serves as the player's link between different towns.

The town will have one of sixteen different style stations. These are chosen at random and will not make a difference in the town setup. To get another style, the town has to be deleted.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

The Train station returns in New Leaf with Porter . It is the first location the player will see of their town at the beginning of the game. Visiting players will also come through the station, replacing the Town Gate in previous games.

As well as the trains that stop to drop you or visiting players off, there are four trains per hour that run through the station without stopping to add to the overall realism of the game. These can be seen at 03, 21, 35, and 49 minutes past the hour.

The default train station is wooden. The majority of the structure used brown wood, although it is trimmed with wood of another color - either green, red or blue.

The exterior of the Train Station can be customized using three other designs, making four in total. The option to customize the station is made available as a Public Works Project once the player has been visited by other players at least 100 times.

Each design costs 498,000 Bells. These are:

  • Default - The default appearance
  • Fairytale - A colorful design with a wrought iron metal gated entrance.
  • Japanese - A traditional looking exterior with cobblestone skirting and a black tile roof.
  • Modern - A tall, box design which references modern train stations.

Locker

Inside the Station there is a locker which the player can use to store items. The contents of the locker are exactly the same as what you would find in your storage at home. The locker is useful for holding items when you go to and from towns, acting as extra space for storage. This means you can access whatever is in your drawers at the time and put items inside.

Trivia

  • In Animal Crossing, if the player chooses to enter the train, and does not have a memory card in slot 2, the game will save and go to the start screen. When the player logs back on, a random villager will welcome the player back before saving. Also, the same thing happens if both towns have the same name.
  • In Animal Crossing, When there is a special event occurring, a screen shot of the train-station will appear. An orange voice-bubble will say a brief message about the occasion. Because the message is in a feminine voice, it is probably an intercom message from Pelly.
  • In Animal Crossing, if a player goes to another town and turns off or resets the game from there, they will lose all of their items and their face changed so their eyes and mouth are black circles when they play again. This "Gyroid Face", specifically Lloid's, is to remind the players to use the Gyroid next to their home to save. The face is returned to normal the next time the player logs in.
  • In Wild World, some villagers will refer to the train station. They will ask if the player likes trains. If the player says yes they will say that in the town they grew up in there was a train station that was run by a "cool" monkey.
  • In New Leaf, some villagers will dive into an extended conversation filled with train jargon about the town's "4th Generation Train".
  • In New Leaf, some players have different colored train stations, which can vary in: Red, Green, Blue etc.
  • In the beginning of New Leaf, Rover will reference that he hasn't ridden trains "since about 2002 or so..." referencing to the original Animal Crossing game's release date of September 15th, 2002 and how he rode the train with the player to their new town.
