Walt (カンロク,Kanroku?) is a kangaroovillager in New Leaf, and did not appear in any previous installments of the game. He and Rooney are the only two male kangaroos.
His name may be a reference to the famous Australian song "Waltzing Matilda". His name may also be derived from Walt Disney who first drew the kangaroo mascot for the University of Missouri - Kansas City, Kasey the Kangaroo. The first three letters in Walt's name could also be derived from "Wallaby" which is a close relative of the Kangaroo. His phrase may be based on the pouch or pocket female kangaroos possess.
Walt is a light blue-ish gray color, with dark gray on his muzzle, paws and stomach. He has bandages on both forearms and a scar under his left eye. His eyes never actually appear to be open, and perpetually appears to be frowning because of his heavy brow. He wears a Jinbei Top, which is usually worn as a form of nightwear or house wear in Japan. Normally, male Japanese would wear jinbei only within their own homes, or outside the home when in close proximity to it.
Below is a brief description of the cranky personality. For more information, click here.
Cranky villagers will usually appear in a grouchy or agitated mood and are more difficult to befriend than other villager types. When talking to the player, cranky villagers tend to become angry if the player disagrees with them or refuses to do a favor. Like all cranky villagers, Walt will be invested in his hobby and will often challenge the player to various competitions. He will easily get along with jock, snooty and other cranky villagers, and occasionally lazy and normal villagers as well. However, he will find it hard to socialize with peppy villagers, as they will seem overstimulated or immature. Walt will also enjoy spreading rumors of other villagers.
Walt has Agent K.K. playing in his house. Overall his home has a very Asian theme to it, further backed by his Japanese attire.
