The wild painting (あらぶるめいが, araburumeiga?, wild masterpiece) is a painting that can be bought in New Leaf from Redd and can be collected by Happy Home Handbook in Happy Home Designer. It is based upon Fujin Raijin-zu, a painting by Tawaraya Sōtatsu. It was made in the seventeenth-century on some gold leaf paper with ink. The painting depicts Fūjin, the wind god, holding a bag that causes wind, and Raijin, the thunder god, playing taiko drums. Fujin Raijin-zu is currently housed at the Kyoto National Museum in Japan.

In New Horizons, the painting can be donated to the museum and be added to the art gallery. As this painting can be bought from Jolly Redd's Treasure Trawler, players should keep in mind that they may be purchasing a forgery. The Wild painting is split in two pieces, a left half and a right half. The both sides have their own forgery. The complete forgery compared to the genuine painting are the colors of the creatures.

Donation to the museum[]

After donating it to the museum, a museum label will give a description of the painting. In New Horizons, the museum label reads:

Folding Screen of Fūjin and Raijin
Tawaraya Sōtatsu, 17th century
Gold leaf and ink on paper

This folding screen shows dynamic brushwork of Fūjin and Raijin on a gold-leaf background. It is thought to be the masterpiece of Tawaraya Sōtatsu, an early-Edo- period artist. The simplification of the subjects is a style that was carried on by Ogata Kōrin. It's a style still in use today in the Rinpa school of Japanese painting.

  • Note: Prior to New Leaf, paintings did not have visual differences between forged and genuine versions. Therefore, paintings given to Blathers were fake or authentic at random.
